Ruben Amorim says Man Utd player ‘has the quality’, expects him to be ‘very good’ in the future

While Manchester United are in the midst of a worst-ever Premier League season, it is worth remembering this campaign is a transitional one.

The form Ruben Amorim has brought is by no means good enough, with just two wins in the last 10 Premier League games, however, there are reasons for this.

Amorim took charge of United at the busiest stage of the season, which meant up until two weeks ago there was basically no training work being done between games due to fixture congestion.

United struggled with a worst-ever December as the club lost five games in a calendar month for the first time in 62 years since Sir Matt Busby achieved the same feat. However, the past few weeks have seen things improve.

Amorim has benefitted from Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes stepping up in midfield, while January saw United add another player who perfectly fits into the style being implemented which has left Amorim impressed.

Ruben Amorim expects Patrick Dorgu to be a star of the future

Upon joining as head coach, Amorim made it clear to United that he wanted a left wing-back.

This need grew through December, with Diogo Dalot struggling on that side and Tyrell Malacia not perceived to be good enough.

The signing of Patrick Dorgu therefore will have delighted Amorim, and now ahead of facing Ipswich Town, he has revealed his verdict on Dorgu’s opening few games, via MUTV.

“Dorgu is playing really well in the context that it is really hard, but he’s showing a lot of good things”, the United head coach explained.

“He has the pace, he has the quality, he can play both sides. He’s going to be a very good player for us now and in the future”.

Since the introduction of Dorgu, United’s attack down the left has become a lot more fluid – it is just a shame Amad Diallo is missing through injury on the other side as that would have been a deadly pairing.

How has Patrick Dorgu performed during the first three Manchester United games?

Adding Dorgu to the squad was never going to fix all the issues which United currently has, but at 20 years of age, he could be the solution long-term for that left wing-back position.

Dorgu has started all three games since his arrival. He has been impressing in each display, with Dorgu’s outing against Everton catching the eye.

Dorgu was also the shining light against Spurs, which followed his impressive 45-minute cameo in the FA Cup fourth round.

As seen, Dorgu has the physicality to play the role as he wins a lot of duels while also showing signs offensively – which will improve when United also improve.
