Former Manchester United prospect Maxi Oyedele left the club in the summer to sign with Legia Warsaw.

Maxi Oyedele was one of the Manchester United players who left the club in the summer transfer window.

Oyedele did not get as far as making his Manchester United debut under Erik ten Hag, although did manage impress during pre-season, providing an assist in the win over Rangers.

Manchester United decided to sell Oyedele for a small fee in the summer to Polish club Legia Warsaw, a deal which includes a ‘substantial’ sell-on clause.

How Maxi Oyedele is faring at Legia Warsaw

Maxi Oyedele was not viewed as an immediate first team signing for Legia Warsaw, who finished third in the Polish top flight last season.

Jacek Zielinski, Legia’s sporting director said at the time that Oyedele had ‘incredible potential’ but warned of ‘competition’ in the team’s midfield.

And it has proven the case, with Oyedele spending the first month of his Legia Warsaw career sitting on the sidelines.

Oyedele made his debut a week ago, coming on as a substitute for the final 22 minutes in a 1-0 league defeat to Pogon Szczescin.

While a low-key introduction, Oyedele showed enough promise to earn a start in Legia’s league match at home to Gornix Zabrze at the weekend.

After going 1-0 down in the first 10 minutes, Legia Warsaw came back to equalise and secure 1-1 draw.

Oyedele played 78 minutes and was one of the team’s standout performers, winning more tackles (3) than any player on the pitch.

The 19-year-old also completed 88 per cent of his passes, created one goalscoring chance, and made two interceptions.

It was a solid start for the teenager and he will hope to have earned more opportunities, as Legia bid to move up from seventh in the league – while he has insisted he is determined to win the title for his new club.

Polish press react to Maxi Oyedele debut

Maxi Oyedele made a positive impression on his debut, with Polish media outlets talking up his performance.

iGol Poland talked up Oyedele’s ‘great 78 minutes’ and ran a headline asking if the midfielder can be ‘a cure for Legia Warsaw’s problems?’

The outlet wrote: “Maxi Oyedele played almost perfectly in this match, immediately becoming a mainstay of the Warsaw team. Now the whole of Warsaw knows him… In a moment, maybe the whole of Poland!”

It added that Oyedele played “as if he had been a Legia player not for a month, but for several years. Great self-confidence, a great display of technique.”

Flash Score Poland added that Oyedele showed ‘excellent vision’, forecasting that if “Legia takes proper care of his development, he could prove to be extremely valuable not only in the club, but also in the national team.”
