Maxi Oyedele nearing Manchester United exit with ‘substantial’ sell-on clause expected

Manchester United are still hoping to bring in new signings this month but are in the process of letting some players leave Old Trafford.

This has been a fairly productive summer for Manchester United with Erik ten Hag backed in the transfer market.

Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro signed before Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui joined from Bayern Munich, reuniting with their former Ajax boss Ten Hag.

Manuel Ugarte is the next target for United but striking a deal with Paris Saint-Germain has not been easy.

United may also need to move some players on before the window shuts though, in order to bring in some cash.

Scott McTominay is attracting interest, Facundo Pellistri is set for Panathinaikos and defender Will Fish is nearing a move to Cardiff City.

Maxi Oyedele transfer latest

Centre back Fish is moving on for first-team opportunities and the same may well go for Maxi Oyedele too.

The Daily Mail claim that Oyedele is ‘in talks’ to complete a move to Polish side Legia Warsaw.

It’s stated that United will sell Oyedele for a ‘modest fee’ but want a ‘substantial’ sell-on clause as part of the deal.

Oyedele is keen on the move with Legia believing that he can become a key player under Goncalo Feio.

Oyedele joined United from Burnley at the age of just eight and has been progressing up through the United ranks.

The 19-year-old has operated as a midfielder or even as a right back and has spent two spells on loan away from United.

After featuring for Altrincham in 2023, Oyedele joined Forest Green Rovers earlier this year but couldn’t help them avoid relegation.

Oyedele was hailed as a ‘wonderful’ talent by former Forest Green boss Troy Deeney but first-team opportunities have been difficult to come by at United – outside of in pre-season games.

Oyedele actually impressed this summer but is now nearing a move to Legia.

The teenager was born in England to a Nigerian father and, crucially, a Polish mother, meaning he has picked up a number of caps for Poland at youth level.

Now ready to make a permanent move to Poland, Oyedele will be hoping to further his career not just domestically but also on the international stage.

United continue to sell young players

Kobbie Mainoo has become a first-team star at Old Trafford, rising up from the academy ranks to nail down a spot in the senior side.

Not everybody can go on that path though and United have shown a willingness to sell young players in recent windows.

Oyedele, Fish and Pellistri are prime examples whilst Burnley want to sign Hannibal Mejbri.

Last summer saw the likes of Zidane Iqbal, Bjorn Hardley, Charlie Savage, Nathan Bishop, Matej Kovar, Noam Emeran, Teden Mengi and Marc Jurado move on.

The approach even continued in January as Mateo Mejia and Isak Hansen-Aaroen moved on to pastures new.

United seem willing to sell these prospects but retain significant sell-on clauses, hoping to bring in more cash down the line.

Oyedele is next in line with United no doubt keen a close eye on his progress if he finalises his move to Legia.
