Harry Maguire starred as England beat old rivals Germany 2-0 at Wembley.
Maguire was selected as UEFA’s Star of the Match for his defensive efforts in delivering another clean sheet.
The Manchester United captain says he felt England were in control of the game through and deserved to win the last 16 match.
Maguire said he knows England have enough attacking depth and talent that they can break teams down if they can keep it tight in defence.
He was quoted by the club website: “We didn’t give them any rhythm or [let them] settle in the game. I felt like for the large majority of the game we were in control of the game, and we know we’ve got match-winners in the team and it’s proven again.”

Hard to win
Maguire referenced France’s shock defeat to Switzerland the day before which saw clubmate Paul Pogba eliminated.
He said: “Listen, we want to win football matches. It’s tournament football. You see what happened with the results yesterday – it’s tough to win football matches at this level. At the moment we’re doing it really well but, listen, it’s just the start. We’ve got to carry it on. We’ve got to continue.
“
England’s next game
England will play the Euro 2020 quarter-final on Saturday night at 8pm against Ukraine.
It will be England’s first match of the tournament away from Wembley, with the game being held in Rome, Italy.
Maguire added: “It’s another big game on Saturday. If we don’t rest, recover and prepare well, it’s going to be another tough test. We know that, and we have to be right at our level to make sure that we win that game on Saturday
