One way to try and convince Edinson Cavani to stay at Manchester United is to simply keep on praising him.
That’s what Harry Maguire did after United’s win over Tottenham, as he gushed over the Uruguayan’s impact on the game in the 3-1 win.
Maguire told the club website that Cavani’s movement is the best he has ever seen from a striker.
Maguire said: “I think he had a big part to play throughout the game. I think his press and his movement… I think we know that the first goal he scores was great play from Paul [Pogba] and then great movement [for his second] and the finish, it’s a great ball from Mason [Greenwood].
“That’s what he’s done throughout his career, that movement in the box is the best that I’ve seen and the best that I’ve played against.
“That’s why he’s scored so many goals throughout his career and I think the rest of the lads have lots to learn from. He deserved that goal.”
Cavani had a goal disallowed, before scoring a header, and it was his shot which led to Fred’s equaliser.
It was an all action performance from a striker who last week against Brighton had looked a little lost.
The difference this time was some of the movement around him, with Pogba playing in a more attacking role.
Cavani was just too good for Tottenham’s questionable defensive partnership of Joe Rodon and Eric Dier.
You would expect a striker of Cavani’s quality to pose them problems, and they just had no answers. The United forward was especially pumped up after his early goal was disallowed, and as Maguire points out, his second goal was completely deserved.
