Harry Amass has successfully passed two tests in two Manchester United starts, but against Liverpool it’s a different challenge entirely.

Manchester United have done it again, an academy graduate who now looks set to be a fixture in the first team this coming season.

It’s a yearly event at this point, that we see a youngster make the leap, and Harry Amass looks to be this years ‘surprise’ as Erik ten Hag described it.

Amass has been very solid against both Real Betis and Arsenal, despite moments which he must improve upon.

But the players he had to defend against in the previous two games are nothing compared with his next opponent, Mohamed Salah.

Harry Amass set to face challenge which has haunted Luke Shaw

In the early hours of Sunday morning UK time, Manchester United will be concluding the pre-season tour against Liverpool, less than a week before a trip to Wembley to face off against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Amass has already put himself in a position which should see him start the game, as he will probably partner Marcus Rashford on the left side.

But this means he will need to be on his ‘A’ game defensively with Mohamed Salah likely to be the biggest test of his career to date.

Salah loves facing United and has scored more goals against the Red Devils than any other club in his career with 14 scored in 15 games.

No matter who has been at left-back to face him, United have almost always struggled including a spell a couple of braces and a hat trick while taking on Luke Shaw.

Therefore it is quite the task for a 17-year-old Amass, and he will need to be more vigilant and avoid switching off as he has done at times in two instances against Arsenal and Betis – both leading to goals.

Facing off against Mohamed Salah is the ultimate test for Amass

For Amass, facing Salah is the biggest possible challenge, but also a strong gauge of whether he can play a role in the opening weeks of the season as Shaw builds up his fitness.

United have a kind opening two weeks, but game week three sees Liverpool arrive at Old Trafford.

No Upcoming Fixtures

So if Amass can handle Salah in the US this weekend, then he will have dealt with the toughest battle he’ll have in the entire Premier League season and could be ready for the big time.

Amass as things stand could be set to start the Community Shield as well against Manchester City a week on Saturday which is a huge chance. Amass’ time could be about to arrive.
