Marcus Rashford came off the bench for England against Croatia to score in a very strong cameo appearance.

After being left out of the starting line-up for Anthony Gordon, Marcus Rashford took his chance from the bench, scoring the fourth in a 4-2 win to kick off the group stage.

Rashford looked really impressive for England, tracking back to help defensively and offering that quality in the final third to finish off a brilliant counterattack from Thomas Tuchel’s side.

This goal for England sees Rashford match Sir Bobby Charlton’s World Cup record, moving up to joint fourth highest scorer for his country at the tournament.

After his cameo appearance, the press in England have been reacting to the performance.

Press in England rate Marcus Rashford’s performance against Croatia

Rashford has looked good for England all summer, but this cameo was his finest moment so far and should really put him ahead of Anthony Gordon.

Rashford earned a 7/10 rating from Sky Sports for ‘showing great composure’ to score his 19th goal for the Three Lions and his fourth in three World Cups.

BBC Sport rated his performance a 7/10, with Rashford’s ‘elite finishing ability’ praised, as was the timing of his introduction when the game was becoming stretched.

The Standard gave Rashford an 8/10 match rating, hailing his ‘impact off the bench’ as he made sure of victory with an ‘unerring finish’.

The Mirror rated Rashford a 7/10, underlining how strong of a cameo he had.

With Rashford having a £40m release clause this summer, performances like this on the world stage will only serve to add to the interest there already is in signing him this summer across the continent.
