Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talked up a potential move for Ronaldo in his press conference.
It was quite unlike Solskjaer, who is usually more reserved. This time he was quite outspoken and said United are open to business.
Now a report from Talksport claims United are confident of a deal for Ronaldo.
Take that with a pinch of salt, perhaps, but quotes from City boss Pep Guardiola kind of serve to back that up.
City had been overwhelming favourites, and now, Guardiola has downplayed any suggestions a deal is close.
The City boss says it is up to Ronaldo to decide. He told his press conference: “Few players, like Cristiano, decide where to play. Not me or Manchester City. Right now looks far far away.”
Should be an easy choice for Ronaldo
In a straight choice between United and City, it should be an easy choice for Ronaldo.
Ronaldo has history with United and it should be a no-brainer for him to re-sign.
Does he want adulation from the Red Devils fans, or hatred? Ronaldo can return as a hero for United and the side are built to win.
We are potentially witnessing a huge transfer saga play out in front of our very eyes, and it is up to Ronaldo. Surely he will make the right choice.
