Borussia Moenchengladbach star Ramy Bensebaini goes up against Manchester City in the Champions League next week.

Ahead of his showdown against Algerian international teammate, Bensebaini has been talking about the club he loves the most, Manchester United.

Speaking to BBC Afrique, Bensebaini said, translated by Fennec Football: “I have been a fan of Manchester United since I was little.

“The Premier League has always attracted me. Everyone knows I’m a United fan.

He added that he is happy at ‘Gladbach for now, while also commenting, “If one day the opportunity presents itself to go forward or to change the climate, I will think about it.”

It’s always good to hear top players speaking openly about an admiration for United, even if they don’t play for us.

Bensebaini, 25, may harbour ambitions of a dream transfer to Old Trafford one day but it does not look likely at present.

He plays as a left-back, a position United don’t need cover any time soon, with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles two strong options right now, and Alvaro Fernandez looking like a very strong prospect in the academy.

What about his teammates?

There is going to be a potential shake-up at ‘Gladbach in the summer with manager Marco Rose announcing last week he is quitting to take the Borussia Dortmund job in 2021/22.

The German side have a number of talented players who should be on United’s radar, including defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria.

Another big talent is Alassane Plea, along with teammate Marcus Thuram, while if United wanted a wildcard centre-back to target in the summer, Swiss international Nico Elvedi is an interesting player.

The uncertainty about next season could prompt any of these players to move on, and while admittedly it is a bit of a reach, Bensebaini could encourage them to take the gamble on United if the Red Devils come calling with an offer of a lifetime.

We wish him all the best against City in the Champions League next week.
