Several Manchester United players have gone on to shine at new clubs after leaving a “rotten” Manchester United side.
Manchester United fans have had to deal with the frustrating trend of players leaving the club and immediately improving.
There is no shortage of examples, with Scott McTominay named Serie A MVP during his debut season in Italy, while Antony is rejuvenated at Real Betis after being considered a major flop at Old Trafford.
Even when it comes to United’s loan players, Marcus Rashford is starring at Barcelona and Rasmus Hojlund has hit the ground running at Napoli.
Now, Gary Lineker has named yet another United player who left under Erik ten Hag and revived his career.

Gary Lineker praises David de Gea’s form
In the latest episode of The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker pointed out that David de Gea is returning to his best at Fiorentina.
“He’s another one, actually, isn’t he, of the players who have left Man United and done pretty well. Had a great season in your old stomping ground, Micah,” Lineker said.
“And he is again this season. He’s been playing brilliantly. So that just shows you, doesn’t it, when a club’s a bit rotten.”
De Gea is among Europe’s best goalkeepers once again, two years after his United exit.
The Spaniard spent 12 years at Old Trafford before he was released under Erik ten Hag in 2023. After spending a season as a free agent, he completed his return to football by signing for Fiorentina.
In Italy, De Gea has been “exceptional” for Fiorentina, and his performances prove that Ten Hag made a huge mistake replacing him with Andre Onana.
Man United have only just recovered from David de Gea exit
Ten Hag was unimpressed by De Gea and ultimately decided that he would bring former Ajax star Onana to Old Trafford.
However, Onana ended up flopping at United and now finds himself on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Ruben Amorim made a major change to United’s goalkeeping department this summer by offloading Onana and replacing him with £18m summer signing Senne Lammens.

Lammens is following in De Gea’s footsteps by joining United as a hugely exciting young talent. The Red Devils must be patient with the 23-year-old Belgian, but the signs so far have been promising.
Lammens was outstanding on debut against Sunderland, and he was calm and composed during the 2-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
