A former Manchester United star was on the same wavelength as Tim Sherwood after the Sky Sports pundit’s harsh criticism of striker Benjamin Sesko.

Benjamin Sesko stepped up in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Burnley on Wednesday evening, with the 22-year-old ensuring the Red Devils picked up a point.

The Slovenia striker netted in the 50th minute to pull United level against Burnley before Sesko added his second in the 60th minute to complete his brace.

Sesko’s second-half performance at Turf Moor earned him huge praise, but Tim Sherwood was deeply critical of the summer signing’s overall spell so far.

“I think the positive is Sesko scoring. Scoring two goals… hopefully, he gets some confidence from that,” Sherwood said on Sky Sports after United’s match.

“It’s taken six months to turn up at Manchester United and I’m pleased for the lad.

“He’s had a tough run of it and I said he should have come off the pitch at half-time, never to wear a Manchester United shirt again.”

Gordon Hill reacts to Tim Sherwood’s scathing assessment of Benjamin Sesko after the 2-2 draw vs Burnley

Tim Sherwood’s criticism of Benjamin Sesko extended beyond his initial comments after he played down the Manchester United striker’s performance against Burnley.

“Listen, I stand by what I say: he’s not good enough to play for Manchester United,” he added, as per the Metro.

“No, he’s turned up for one game against Burnley, who are going to get relegated. Look, fair play to him, hopefully he gets some confidence and we start seeing something different from him.

“I’ll put him in my fantasy football team now!”

Sherwood sparked backlash from United fans over his unfair criticism, but former Red Devils and England winger Gordon Hill agreed with the Sky Sports pundit.

“I agree with Tim,” Gordon Hill wrote on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Sesko has a long way to go before I call him a top striker, scoring a couple of goals against a poor side does not make him a top striker, at 74 million, he should be the finished article and he is not.”

Forget Benjamin Sesko, Gordon Hill was impressed with what Patrick Dorgu brought to the table for Man Utd

Sesko’s brace caught the eye of United fans on Wednesday evening, but Patrick Dorgu was another standout performer from the Premier League fixture.

Patrick Dorgu was deployed on the right wing in Darren Fletcher’s first match in charge as United caretaker manager and he picked up an assist amid Sesko’s brace.

Will Benjamin Sesko WIN the “Sesko vs Hojlund” debate?

Is there even a debate to be had or has he already won it?

The 21-year-old Danish wing-back linked up superbly well with United striker Sesko in attack and Gordon Hill praised Dorgu for his performance at Turf Moor.

“Dorgus [sic] cross for the second goal was superb, natural left wing cross into the danger area for Sesko to get on the end of it,” he wrote on X.

“Now that is wing play, you supply the crosses and I will get on the end of them. Not inverted, which has its place in the game.”

United are currently seventh in the Premier League table after the Burnley match and the Red Devils are three points adrift from fourth-place Liverpool.
