Of the 13 Manchester United players at the World Cup, plus Ederson for Brazil, it is Bruno Fernandes who many expect to be the standout performer.

Fernandes is Portugal’s main man right now, considering the struggles of Cristiano Ronaldo up front, and if they go far, it will be thanks to the United captain.

But Alan Shearer has picked another United player to be one of the most impactful at the competition this summer.

Alan Shearer expects Matheus Cunha to take the World Cup by storm

Despite Fernandes’ quality, he isn’t unanimously seen as the man who will stand out this summer. Manuel Ugarte has predicted Fernandes won’t score a goal this summer at the World Cup.

This is unlikely as Fernandes will absolutely star, but speaking to BBC Sport on TikTok, Alan Shearer has picked another United player as one of the three players he expects to make a big impact.

“My last one is Matheus Cunha. I think the position that he will play, the talent that is around him, I think he could and probably will score quite a few goals.”

Cunha has been handed the Brazil number nine jersey for the World Cup, and he is likely to start for the Selecao. Cunha will be so impactful for Brazil as the team are much better with him on the pitch.

If Brazil goes far, Cunha could be in with a shout for the team of the tournament, should he live up to expectations.

Manchester United will benefit from Matheus Cunha’s World Cup

Cunha would be a different animal come August for United if he has a good World Cup with the confidence he will gain, and all indications are that within Brazil, they believe he is key.

Brazilian legend Kaka has hailed Cunha ahead of the World Cup, praising him for his understanding of the game at this stage of his career.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has praised Cunha, explaining how good the United forward is.

Interestingly, Sir Alex Ferguson thinks that Brazil will win the World Cup, with his predictions and opinions worth paying attention to.

If Cunha is brilliant for Brazil, it will also be a signal that his incredible performances for United are only the beginning.
