If Portugal does well, it will be down to Fernandes and the stellar midfield group behind him to make up for Cristiano Ronaldo’s limitations.
However, Manuel Ugarte has now made a bold prediction, which would mean his club teammate Fernandes struggling in the tournament.

Portugal comes into the competition on hot form, with Fernandes the epitome of this. Fernandes will have the World Cup assist record in his sights, currently held by Pelé.
This may happen considering the form Fernandes is in. But Ugarte doesn’t think that his club captain will score a goal.
Ugarte was asked by United’s TikTok channel to share his ‘rogue prediction’ for the World Cup, and he had one about Fernandes.
“Bruno won’t score”, he bizarrely stated about his teammate and someone you would think he’d be wishing well.
This almost certainly sets up the script for Portugal to somehow meet Uruguay, and Fernandes to score against Ugarte.

Fernandes’ record for Portugal suggests Ugarte will be wrong
Ugarte was probably joking, but even so, he is undoubtedly going to end up being wrong with his prediction.
This is because, as good as Fernandes is for United, he is capable of being even better for his country.
In his last four international appearances, Fernandes has four goals and two assists, suggesting he could be the player of the tournament this summer if he can keep it up.
With DR Congo, Colombia, and Uzbekistan to play in the groups, there is a very strong chance Fernandes racks up multiple goal contributions.
