Manchester United have been forced to make difficult decisions in the transfer market and one player may win a league title after departing Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s financial position is far from ideal with Sir Jim Ratcliffe making cuts cross the club.
The reality is that United need to sell players in order to bring in new faces to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer.
That was the case last summer too as United sold Scott McTominay to Napoli before the summer deadline.
McTominay’s exit was a difficult one with the midfielder coming up through the ranks to become a first-team regular at Old Trafford.
The Scot was sold as United brought in Manuel Ugarte, but McTominay is now chasing glory under Antonio Conte.

Federico Macheda on Scott McTominay exit
Napoli were beaten 2-1 by Cesc Fabregas and Como on Sunday, denting their Serie A title hopes.
McTominay, Conte and Napoli sit one behind Inter in the Serie A title race, but Atalanta are just two points behind Napoli.
This promises to be a fierce title race in the final stages of the season and McTominay will hope to end the campaign with major silverware.
Former United striker Federico Macheda has now been asked for his take on McTominay having kept tabs on him at Old Trafford.
Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Macheda noted that he hasn’t heard from McTominay for a while but has been impressed with Napoli’s season.
Macheda added that he felt McTominay was ‘always among the best’ players at United and wasn’t dragged down by the club’s difficult moments.
The Italian therefore isn’t surprised at all by McTominay’s strong season, believing that he is playing in a ‘positive environment’ under Conte.
“I haven’t heard from Scott, but Napoli are having a great season. They will play until the end with Inter and that’s nice, they are having a great season and I think they will fight until the last day,” said Macheda.
“Even in Manchester in difficult moments he was always among the best, he never suffered the suffering of United. Then a player like that who ends up in a positive environment like Napoli and with a coach like Conte… I expected him to do so well. I’m happy for him and for Napoli,” he added.
How Macheda and McTominay are faring this season
McTominay has bagged six goals in 23 Serie A games this season, chipping in with two assists as well.
The Italian media have been impressed with McTominay and he will likely have a huge say on Napoli’s title chances in the final stages of the season.
As for Macheda, the striker actually started the season without a club after leaving Ankaragucu at the end of last term.
Macheda joined Asteras Tripolis in September and has been in decent form this term, notching six goals and two assists in 18 games.
A title win won’t be on the horizon for Macheda this season but he will be looking for McTominay to achieve that milestone this season.
