Manchester United cult hero Federico Macheda has signed for a new club – and has a few interesting match-ups ahead.
Federico Macheda’s stunning impact for Manchester United in the 2008/09 title race will never be forgotten.
The Italian striker came off the bench against Aston Villa at Old Trafford, in a brave selection from Sir Alex Ferguson, and it turned out to be an inspired call.
Macheda’s winning goal is one of the most memorable strikes of the modern era, in terms of it’s quality and importance, with the victory keeping the Red Devils on track to win the Premier League.
While that moment looked like being the football-birth of a new megastar – Macheda’s goal against Aston Villa was as good as it got.
Now 33-years-old, Macheda has spent the past few months looking for a new club after his contract at Turkish club Ankaragucu expired in June.

Macheda back to Greece
A return to Greece could bring the best out of Federico Macheda, where he enjoyed the most consistent run of his career.
Macheda made more than 100 appearances for Panathinaikos, scoring 40 goals and winning the Greek Cup in 2021/22.
His move to Turkey was less successful, along with a subsequent loan to APOEL in Cyprus.
Back in Greece, Macheda will line up against three former Manchester United players, who have made moves to the Super League this season.
Facundo Pellistri has signed with Panathinaikos, while Shola Shoretire has joined PAOK – who will face United in the Europa League.
Anthony Martial has also signed with AEK Athens – and that could be match to pay attention to when Macheda and Martial potentially go head to head when the two teams meet on November 9.
