Ruben Amorim has inherited a lot of the issues at Manchester United that have been left by Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag bought numerous players for the Red Devils who quite simply haven’t cut it at Manchester United. The likes of Antony and Casemiro have set the club back years financially.
But aside from financial issues, the problems have been clear to see on the pitch. United lack a goalscorer and are depleted in a few positions.
One of these positions was left-back, which thankfully looks to have been solved with the arrival of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
United have known the left-sided full-back position has been an issue for a while, however.

Erik ten Hag’s final player update was on Luke Shaw
Ten Hag knew that he had a burning problem at left-back with Luke Shaw’s fitness always a burden.
Speaking in his final press conference following Manchester United’s defeat to West Ham, then-United boss Ten Hag revealed that Shaw’s recovery was not going to plan.
“The process is not going as we expected, that’s the truth,” said Ten Hag.
“The setback – if you want to call it like this – but we want to do it very careful because when he is now dropping again we have made the wrong process.
“We can’t have it that he is playing for some games and then drops out again. So we do it very carefully.”
This made Amorim’s first deal as Manchester United’s head coach a simple one, they had to put their hands in their pockets to cough up cash for a Shaw replacement. Hence why Dorgu has been purchased for the Red Devils.
But it wasn’t just issues with Shaw, Tyrell Malacia also contributed to the problem, with the Dutch full-back evidently not up to scratch from a quality or fitness perspective. This is also now being dealt with.

Tyrell Malacia also a problem, he’s leaving Manchester United on loan
Malacia is also being dealt with, he’s leaving Manchester United on loan to PSV Eindhoven.
The deal will see Malacia return to the Netherlands having joined United from Feyenoord in 2022. Malacia’s move to Benfica collapsed, so PSV have pounced to strike a deal.
The fact he’s returning to Holland shows Malacia just isn’t cut out for United, or the Premier League. This is proven by his underwhelming stats over the past few years at Old Trafford.
| Competition | Year | Matches Played | Goals | Assists | Yellow Cards | Red Cards |
| Europa League | 2024-25 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| 2022-23 | 9 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | |
| Premier League | 2024-25 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| 2022-23 | 22 | 0 | 0 | 6 | 0 | |
| EFL Cup | 2022-23 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
Let’s hope Dorgu isn’t as disappointing as Malacia has been in red.
