Manchester United are edging closer to securing the signature of Ruben Amorim following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
Amorim looks on the verge of joining United, with personal terms agreed. Now, one hurdle remains, and that’s settling it with Sporting Lisbon, his current club.
If the Portuguese is to join, he’ll link up with a Manchester United squad, not in the greatest of shapes. Erik ten Hag left the Red Devils in 14th in the Premier League, with some shoddy form.

He’ll need time to get his starting XI together, and may even need to add a few new players in January to the United ranks.
One position now looks a certainty, thanks to yet another injury setback.
Luke Shaw suffers another Manchester United injury setback
Luke Shaw has suffered yet another injury setback, with the full-back not recovering well from his calf injury.

Speaking after Manchester United’s defeat to West Ham on Sunday, then-United boss Erik ten Hag revealed that Shaw’s recovery was not going to plan.
“The process is not going as we expected, that’s the truth,” said Ten Hag.
“The setback – if you want to call it like this – but we want to do it very careful because when he is now dropping again we have made the wrong process.
“We can’t have it that he is playing for some games and then drops out again. So we do it very carefully.”
Ruben Amorim, if appointed, must sign left-back in January
The fact of the matter is now that Shaw’s time looks done at Old Trafford. Shaw has a ludicrous injury record at United.
If Amorim is appointed, his first January point of call must be to sign a left-back. Alphonso Davies has been linked to the Red Devils and fits Amorim’s tactics to a tee.
Elsewhere, United could look to former Red Devil Alvaro Fernandez, who could be Amorim’s first signing.
Whoever comes, one thing is for certain, Shaw can not lock down that position anymore, like he has done for 11 years.
