Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is taking some time out after he was sacked from his role at Old Trafford.
It is one week since Erik ten Hag was sacked as Manchester United manager. While the club have moved on swiftly, appointing Ruben Amorim, Ten Hag will take a little more time deciding on his next move.
The Dutchman has moved back to his homeland, where he was seen in attendance watching a game between Heracles and NAC Breda in the Eredivisie over the weekend.
Ten Hag was fired with United 14th in the Premier League and without a Europa League win after three games.
Erik ten Hag future
Erik ten Hag previously managed Utrecht and Ajax before taking the Manchester United job.
Dutch journalist Tijmen van Wissing has predicted a couple of future roles for Ten Hag, including one at Ajax’s competitors PSV Eindhoven.
He is quoted via FC Update: “My guess is that Ten Hag will have one or two more major European adventures. And maybe PSV will become topical again if Peter Bosz goes looking for his fortune elsewhere.
“I truly believe in Erik ten Hag. I think he will do two or three more jobs.”
He also tips Ten Hag for a senior role at FC Twente, the club he supports, predicting he could become their future chairman.
Van Wissing explains this would be for when Ten Hag retires from management: “He can become unpaid chairman of FC Twente and he will go into that with full passion. He has already said that. I firmly believe that he has a lot of quality. Then he will also shape FC Twente in his own way.”
Ten Hag dealing with sacking
Erik ten Hag is said to be desperately frustrated to have been sacked by Manchester United. Even if, as Ruud van Nistelrooy commented, Ten Hag accepted results had not been good enough.
Dutch journalist Han Kraay Jr told Voetbal Primeur: “I heard people say: Erik ten Hag must have been very busy counting money the past few days. But at the moment you don’t count your money.
“I can tell that he is simply sick and tired of being fired.”
Erik ten Hag released a statement on Friday, expressing his sadness at his sacking, and wishing Manchester United well for the future.
