Eric Bailly appears to suffer injury on international duty

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly left Ivory Coast’s friendly game with Belgium early with an apparent injury.

Bailly was pictured on the ground clutching his hamstring in the 70th minute, before he was substituted.

An injury right now is the last thing Eric Bailly or Manchester United need.

Bailly missed the first six months of last season due to a knee injury.

He has made just two league starts since, although he has stayed fit since February, aside from a head clash in the FA Cup semi-final.

This season United hoped Bailly would be able to step up and prove his quality in an injury free season.

It is too early to know whether this will cost Bailly time for United, but the picture is not an encouraging sign.

We will know more perhaps only when Bailly returns to United next week.

Ivory Coast have a friendly with Japan next Tuesday, and it will be interesting to see whether Bailly is in the line up.

United have a crucial run of fixtures coming up. Even if Bailly is out for just a few weeks, it would be a big blow.

One consolation is the return of Axel Tuanzebe through injury, but it would have been nice to have both he and Bailly fit together.

Hopefully this latest blow for Bailly will not be as bad as it looks.

If there is a lay off, then United’s decision not to sign a centre-back in the transfer window will come under further scrutiny.
