Dylan Levitt is one Manchester United loanee who is making a strong impression, north of the border with Dundee United.
He scored his first senior league goal against Motherwell in midweek and he was picked out for praise by teammate Kevin McDonald after that thunderbolt.
McDonald knows what it takes to make it as a midfielder in English football, having played for clubs including Fulham, Wolves and Sheffield United.
He told the Courier of Levitt: “He’s so gifted technically and has great spatial awareness. Put him on a big stage week-in, week-out then he’s going to look even better than he does right now. It’s down to Dylan how far his career goes. He can go a long way if he wants it.
“People will keep on top of him at Dundee United. After the Motherwell game, the manager had a bit of word and asked for more. I thought he did more than enough but they are setting high standards for him here.
“In the long-term, it will be the same at Manchester United. They will keep pushing him. The game down south will suit Dylan more in the long term. It can be 100 miles an hour at times up here but down south it’s more relaxed.
“You get more time on the ball and suits players who are more technically gifted. He’s still learning but Dylan is a brilliant player and great kid.
“You don’t get to the point where you are at Manchester United and being capped 10 times for Wales at his age if you aren’t a good player. He’s laid back and very confident. He has all the attributes to go where he wants to in the game.”
United do need a central midfielder, but it would be asking a lot for Levitt, 21, to jump from the Scottish Premiership to the Premier League next season.
Hannibal is definitely ahead of him in the pecking order in terms of young midfielders and James Garner, who is shining at Nottingham Forest right now, probably is too.
But it is clear his development is going in the right direction and he will be ready for the next step next season if he keeps playing like he is.
The first senior league goal was an important milestone and now it up to him to influence results more and more regularly. It should be exciting to watch his development.
