Danish media react to 59-touch Christian Eriksen display vs Switzerland

So far throughout the 2024/25 season, Christian Eriksen has been impressive and this has just continued during the international break.

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United were looking to offload the Dane – offering him out for an absolute bargain fee, amid interest from Ajax and Anderlecht.

However, Ineos will be delighted an exit did not transpire for Christian Eriksen, as he has been among the standout performers this season with three goals and three assists for Manchester United.

Eriksen was the standout against Porto and it was this Europa League performance which may have saved Erik ten Hag at the club.

After impressing for United, Eriksen has been in action for Denmark with a disappointing outing vs Spain opening his international break. Now the 32-year-old has shone against Switzerland.

Danish press blown away by Christian Eriksen performance

On Tuesday night, Eriksen started in central midfield for Denmark as they played out a 2-2 draw with Switzerland.

Eriksen contributed to both goals, with a goal and an assist. Because of this, he was the man of the match, and Danish media have been full of praise.

Danish outlet DR rated Eriksen’s display as just a seven but praised the United No.14 for his improvements in the game: “Starting somewhat further back on the field than usual in the national team. He actually started with a couple of successful tackles. On the other hand, much of the first half was bad, while the second half, on the other hand, got better and better. Technically good details and of course the goal.”

Ekstra Bladet also commented on the display, handing Eriksen an 8/10 and lauding his ‘star’ quality: “It may well be that all the set-pieces were not in the cupboard from Eriksen, but it was brilliant when he tipped a perfectly tempered ball deep as a set-up for Isaksen. That’s the kind of star sprinkling that can unlock any defence, and of course, he capped it off with a goal.”

Finally, the Danish outlet BT wrote almost a love letter to Eriksen for his performance: “Dear Christian. You drive us crazy! We can sit and swear and complain about your imprecise set pieces and somewhat weak defensive qualities – and then you can make us forget EVERYTHING with the actions that have made you one of Denmark’s best in history. Enthralling presentation to Isaksen and then an ice-cold box for 2-2, where there was no twist in the roller. Talk about being decisive.”

How Eriksen performed in goal and assist display for Denmark

Eriksen has looked so much better this season compared with his performances from the 2023/24 campaign. This season is expected to be Eriksen’s last at United and therefore he will want to go out with a bang, and so far he absolutely is.

Against Switzerland for his country, this trend continued.

Eriksen had a pretty good night for his nation, as he barely put a foot wrong – something which will only strengthen his argument to start against Brentford on Saturday.

Eriksen has been excellent at starting phases of play and also in and around the box this season – which Ten Hag has noticed and started the Dane regularly of late.
