Dan Gore gets picked out as Rotherham United’s best player in 2025/26, Man Utd must take a close look

Manchester United might take a close look at what Dan Gore can offer.

Kobbie Mainoo’s midfield partner in the 2022 FA Youth Cup winning side has finally enjoyed a successful loan spell at the third time of asking.

Every young player needs luck, and Dan Gore’s previous loans had none.

After making his Manchester United debut in late 2023 under Erik ten Hag, Gore was sent on loan to Port Vale for the second half of the 2023/24 season. An injury on his debut cut his season short.

The impact of that injury required surgery and denied Gore a summer move in 2024, and he headed on loan again in the second half of 2024/25. More bad luck followed. He was able to play only three games for Rotherham due to injury.

He did recover in time to head out on loan early to Rotherham this past summer and has spent the entire 2025/26 season there. This time he evaded the injury curse and racked up plenty of minutes, playing 41 games in total.

Gore rated top

The end of season player ratings from local outlet the Rotherham Advertiser has picked out Dan Gore as the club’s top performer.

Gore was rated 8/10, with the report reading: “If he had a bad game, I can’t remember it. Had the drive to match his skill. Gave no quarter and asked no quarter all season.

“A hard, uncompromising competitor brimming with energy, enterprise and aggression.”

Rotherham struggled and were relegated from League One. It is fair to wonder what Gore could have achieved in a better side.

Regardless, the Manchester United youngster just needed to play, and he has proven that the two previous spells were just bad luck and should not define him.

During the FA Youth Cup run, Gore provided some of the grit to go along with Kobbie Mainoo‘s technique, and the pair worked together well.

It is not out of the question that Manchester United take a close look at Gore in pre-season.

The whole point of the loans are to prepare an academy player for the physicality of first team football. Gore clearly stood up to the challenge and will return to Carrington as a stronger player, mentally and physically.

United extended Gore’s contract

There was some uncertainty over Dan Gore’s contract situation, with his previous deal set to expire this summer. But Manchester United are no mugs. Not any more.

According to The Sun, United actually tied Gore down to a new deal before he went on loan.

His latest deal runs until June 2028.

This gives United time to re-assess Gore this summer, and also a little leverage if they do decide to cash in for a small fee.
