Raphael Varane was sensationally unveiled by Manchester United in front of a packed Old Trafford crowd on the first game of the season
The formal announcement of Varane’s transfer took longer than anybody wanted, but it was pretty special seeing him suited and booted at Old Trafford being presented on the pitch.
Varane’s former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo even acknowledge the big moment at his former club.
Ronaldo responded to Rio Ferdinand’s video of the occasion, commenting, ‘Grande’, which simply translates as ‘Great’ from Portuguese.
Roberto Carlos also left a message above Ronaldo’s celebrating the big moment. Up until now, Ronaldo had not commented on Varane’s move to United.
Manchester United have signed a superstar, and while Victor Lindelof played very well in the 5-1 victory over Leeds, Varane is just a different level.
The Frenchman has won the World Cup and four Champions League titles. He is exactly the type of signing United need to reach the level the club aspire to.
United enjoyed a perfect day against Leeds, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick, with Mason Greenwood and Fred also on the scoresheet, while Paul Pogba provided four assists.
