Rumours cropped up on Monday linking Edinson Cavani with a move to Boca Juniors.
Argentine outlet Ole reports Cavani has decided on Boca as his next destination.
This link has been dismissed as an option for next season.
TyC Sports report: “The chances that Edinson Cavani could reach Boca in June seem more and more distant, after from his surroundings they slipped that the forward would have no intention of living in Argentina. In addition, he would be close to renewing his contract with Manchester United.”
It adds that Boca’s hopes are complicated due to Cavani’s high salary.
The report also notes Cavani’s representatives have a meeting scheduled with United to finalise the activation of his contract extension.
TyC Sports reported last year that Cavani and Boca chief Juan Roman Riquelme held talks previously, with the Uruguayan listening to what Boca had to offer out of courtesy.
Cavani is still showing he can play at a very high level and he seems very settled in Manchester right now.
United’s call
If there is a decision to move Cavani on, it will be Manchester United’s call.
United have Cavani under contract for an extra year, if the club activate his extension beyond this summer.
Cavani has scored seven goals for United and has looked lively when he has featured. The only problem ongoing for him is his battle with injuries, which have caused him to miss key games this season.
Frustratingly, Cavani has not been able to get the full Manchester United experience just yet, due to the lack of fans at Old Trafford.
It should be in his interests to stay at United an extra season to really get to appreciate what it is truly like to play in English football.
Cavani’s future could hinge on whether United are able to land a prolific younger striker like Erling Haaland.
If that is the case, then United may choose not to extend his deal, and if he suffers more injury problems then the club may also back off.
What is key here, is that Cavani’s future is in United’s hands, and there’s no reason to panic about the Boca Juniors reports, especially in early March.
