New Manchester United signing Bryan Mbeumo has given Rio Ferdinand some insight into Ruben Amorim’s training sessions.
After a disastrous campaign in 2024/25, Ruben Amorim is under huge pressure to hit the ground running this season.
Ahead of pre-season, Amorim set strict deadlines for his players to make sure they returned to training at peak fitness.
It appears to have paid off with several stars looking much fitter than they have in previous summer tours. Amorim wants more ‘physicality’ in his side, and he has not only added it through new signings, but also by putting his squad through tough training drills.
Rio Ferdinand was impressed by United’s training having flown out to watch the Red Devils on tour. The United legend recently got the chance to talk with summer signing Bryan Mbeumo.

Bryan Mbeumo shocked by intense Man United training
Amorim raised a few eyebrows this week by delaying Mbeumo’s United debut. The new £65m arrival was left out completely in the friendly against West Ham.
Mbeumo has been given extra time to catch up to the fitness of his new teammates, meaning he will likely make his debut against Everton in the final game of the US pre-season tour.
Via his Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand recalls what Mbeumo said about training under Amorim.
“Mbeumo came in here and we did an interview with him earlier. After the cameras went off I asked how training has been,” Ferdinand said.
“My man turned around and went: ‘My God… wow. It’s hard, it’s really hard.’
“So don’t ever let the fact that these guys are going out and having downtime make you think that these guys aren’t working. They’re working.”
Ferdinand quickly shuts down any criticism suggesting United players aren’t giving maximum effort this summer, with Mbeumo’s reaction setting the record straight.
Bryan Mbeumo is already impressing at Man United
United fans will have to wait a few more days before seeing Mbeumo in action, but it seems the 25-year-old is already making a strong impression.
Amorim is delighted to have signed Mbeumo, adding that he will add experience as a proven Premier League star.
He has also impressed his teammates with Mason Mount raving about Mbeumo in training, claiming he has been a “brilliant” addition to the side.
Before the deal was even confirmed, Ferdinand praised Mbeumo’s attitude, adding that he would improve the standards of the dressing room with his professionalism.
If a consummate professional such as Mbeumo is finding Amorim’s training sessions tough, it shows that the United boss is taking this summer’s preparation extremely seriously.
