Manchester United’s young players have played a prominent role in pre-season with many senior stars returning late due to international involvement.
Bruno Fernandes returned to training in late July and has seen enough of a couple of young players to be very impressed.
One who caught his eye was midfield star James Garner, who has featured in all three pre-season games.

Fernandes told the club website: “I think we know some of them already. Jimmy Garner, I think is a really good player, I really like him and the way he kicks the ball. He’s really aggressive off the ball too.”
Another player who has impressed everybody, including Fernandes, is young forward Anthony Elanga.
Fernandes said: “Elanga was already playing with us and this pre-season he has been brilliant.
“He’s a nice kid, works hard and is really humble and I think he’s deserving of everything that’s happening to him. I see a brilliant future for him and Jimmy too, and also for all the other kids.”
He went on to add: “The way he trains and treats the people is really important to be part of the first team and that’s why he’s deserving of every chance he gets and every performance he has put in.”
Fernandes is a leader in the squad and the fact both players are catching his eye is a great sign for them both.
Good impression
Elanga has scored two goals in three games and has put himself into the reckoning for a first team place, especially with Marcus Rashford out due to a shoulder operation.
Shola Shoretire, Teden Mengi, Dylan Levitt and Joe Hugill are among the other young players to have got game time this summer to add to their experience.
Facundo Pellistri has gone back on loan to Alaves, becoming the sixth United player to be loaned out, and more will likely follow.

While Elanga could stick around, Garner’s future is more unclear, and depends on whether United bring in or sell any midfielders before the end of the transfer window.
A report from The Sun last weekend claimed Sheffield United are keen on taking him on loan, along with Nottingham Forest.
Fernandes’ comments will mean a lot to both players, whether they stay or head out temporarily, both will be left feeling they have a chance to make it at Manchester United.
