Borussia Dortmund’s thinly veiled Jadon Sancho dig spotted and Man Utd fans won’t be happy seeing it

Borussia Dortmund have aimed a not-so-subtle dig at Manchester United after eagle-eyed fans spotted the message that the club posted after the signing of Jadon Sancho.

Sancho finally made his return to the German club as part of a loan deal on Thursday, with the United outcast to spend the remainder of the season at Dortmund.

The 23-year-old United winger completed his medical in Germany on Wednesday and will now link up with his Dortmund teammates at the club’s training camp in Marbella.

Sancho has been linked with a sensational move to Dortmund in recent months after his falling out with United manager Erik ten Hag in the current campaign.

The ex-England international had not played for United since last August and had been excluded from the first team after he hit back at comments Ten Hag made about him.

Ten Hag had left Sancho out of his United squad for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates last September and claimed it was due to the player’s training performances.

Dortmund’s loan deal for Sancho is reportedly worth £3m and includes an additional £3.4m in add-ons, including appearances and Champions League qualification.

Dortmund’s dig on United over Sancho

Sancho’s loan spell in Germany will see the German club cover a large portion of his United wages, with the deal not including a permanent option to buy in the summer.

The former England winger is under contract with United until 2026 and Sancho is reportedly earning a mammoth £300,000 per week at Old Trafford.

Former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought Sancho to the Premier League club in 2021 after the Red Devils struck a £73m deal with Dortmund in 2021.

Following his return to Dortmund, the Bundesliga club on Thursday tweeted a photo of Sancho wearing the German side’s kit and posted a message in the caption.

“You love to see it,” Dortmund wrote, adding a smiling face emoji.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed the post on X, formerly Twitter, was a reference to one United made in 2021 after Sancho completed his blockbuster move to Old Trafford.

However, United’s post was a reference to one that Dortmund had made in 2020 after the German side had initially rejected the Red Devils’ attempt to sign Sancho.

Sancho outlines Dortmund objective

Speaking on his return to Dortmund, Sancho revealed that it felt like a ‘coming home’ moment and the United loanee is keen to help his side’s Champions League qualification bid.

“When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like ‘coming home,’” he said.

“I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge.

“I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”
