Ben Foster feels that there is one reason why he cannot see Barcelona and England star Marcus Rashford working under Michael Carrick at Manchester United.
Marcus Rashford’s contract with Barcelona expires at the end of June and the 28-year-old is away at England’s training camp in Florida ahead of the World Cup.
The on-loan Manchester United forward spent the entirety of the 2025-26 campaign at Barcelona and Rashford lifted the La Liga trophy with the Spanish side.
However, Rashford’s future at the Camp Nou was plunged into doubt last month after Barcelona made the surprising call to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.

Marcus Rashford evidently does not want to return to Man Utd – There is no way back for him surely?!

Ben Foster breaks down his biggest issue with Michael Carrick trying to bring Marcus Rashford back into the Man Utd fold
Manchester United included a buy clause in Marcus Rashford’s move to Barcelona last summer, which the La Liga champions could trigger for a £30.3m transfer.
However, the £69.3m arrival of Newcastle and England winger Anthony Gordon at the Camp Nou has thrown a spanner in the works for Rashford’s future.
Michael Carrick has touched on Rashford in the past and the 44-year-old United legend has not closed the door on the Barcelona star’s return to Old Trafford.
Speaking on his podcast, Ben Foster said that the standout issue for Rashford not working under Carrick would be that he is not fully committed to the United project.
“The problem with Marcus Rashford is I get the impression his heart is not in wanting to do it 110 per cent for the team,” he said on Fozcast.
“I think he has still quite a lot of it where he wants to do it for himself and show how good he is and what he can do.
“Whereas Michael Carrick and that Man United team, the reason why they got such a good finish is [that] they have a team of players who want to all work together and work hard.
“And that, as what people say, the collective is better than the individual. And I think that is Marcus Rashford’s problem. Until he’s willing to actually just do whatever the team needs him to do, then I think he’s going to struggle.”

Ben Foster sends a warning to both Man Utd and Marcus Rashford about the Barcelona star’s future
Rashford will become a United first-team player again from July if Barcelona choose not to sign the England international on a permanent basis this summer.
It has been reported that the former Aston Villa forward is exploring his options elsewhere amid linking up with his England teammates in the United States.
Foster has warned both Rashford and United that a reunion at Old Trafford might be inevitable after Barcelona are unlikely to keep the Three Lions forward at the Camp Nou.
“Well, he’s going to have to go back, isn’t he?” Foster continued.
“He’s going to have to because I don’t think Barcelona are not going to buy him.”
Rashford made 49 appearances for Barcelona last season and the United star netted 14 times and registered 14 assists for the Spanish champions.
