Anthony Martial is now doing something at AEK Athens he simply couldn’t anymore at Manchester United

Anthony Martial is loving his time away from Manchester United – with the French striker scoring again in Greece for AEK Athens.

Martial left Manchester United on a free in the summer, as the forward was no longer deemed appropriate for the club under Erik ten Hag.

But since his move, Martial has been thriving for his new side. Under a new manager, Martial’s a regular after his fantastic debut – and has kept up his form by scoring goals for fun.

Martial scored again for Athens on Saturday, propelling the Greek side to second in the table, just three points off top spot. A league title could certainly be on the cards.

Whilst it’s good to see a former Manchester United player thriving away from the club, it’s also equally frustrating to think that the very reason he might have been sold may no longer be an issue.

Anthony Martial is staying fit at AEK Athens

The decision to exile Martial from Manchester United had to be somewhat based on his injury record for the Red Devils.

Martial simply couldn’t stay fit for United, which led to just 19 appearances in his final season, accumulating just 629 minutes.

It was a real shame, as on his day, he was a fantastic finisher – which Manchester United could seriously do with at the moment under Ruben Amorim.

Remarkably, in Greece, Martial is more than managing to stay fit. He’s played 17 games so far this season (1,195 minutes), with ten full 90-minute matches completed.

Anthony Martial’s ridiculous injury record at Manchester United

With Martial’s injury record for United, this is insanely surprising. In total, Martial had 23 different injuries at Manchester United in 9 years, he’s subsequently had 451 days out, missing 108 games in the process.

Saying this, Martial is only ever a minute away from an injury scare – so it wouldn’t be a shock to see him injured sometime soon for Athens.

It was still the correct decision to see Martial go. Another contract was too risky, and despite his goals, United are better off looking elsewhere. Martial’s last season at United proved this.

For the time being, however, the 29-year-old is thriving. Long may it continue.
