Manchester United have suffered yet another injury blow as it has emerged that Anthony Martial is set for a significant spell on the sidelines.
After being missing for the past couple of weeks for Manchester United, there had been reports that Anthony Martial was consulting club doctors over an injury problem.
Well, seemingly the club have decided to move forward with the surgery and the Frenchman is now facing yet another extended period of the season on the sidelines.
The Red Devils attempted to move the striker on this month but his agent Phillipe Lamboley publicly denied this and stated Martial would remain at Old Trafford until his contract is up in the summer.

United’s statement
In a very short statement on the club’s website, United confirmed the Frenchman would be out of action and set a timescale for when we could see his return.
“Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has completed successful surgery to address a groin complaint and will be out of action for about 10 weeks as he rehabilitates,” the statement read. “We wish Anthony a speedy recovery and look forward to his return.”
The 28-year-old’s latest injury may well be the final straw and, it’s likely that fans may well have seen the Frenchman for the final time with his contract expiring in the summer.
It would be a rather sad way for Martial to end his time at the club but it does sum up his recent plight in Manchester that a potential season-ending injury is how his career at United finishes.
Martial was linked with a move to Fenerbahce with a £7 million deal mooted but this injury, and the comments from his agent, will put an end to that story once and for all.
Martial’s United legacy
Despite how his career at Old Trafford is petering out, there was a time when the Frenchman was one of the most exciting prospects in world football.
The forward joined United from Monaco in September 2015 in a £44million deal to become the most expensive teenager in world football. That record was later broken by Kylian Mbappe’s £165m move to Paris Saint-Germain, again from Monaco, in August 2017.
He won the Golden Boy award for his performances in 2015 and looked like a player who could be world-class. However, Jose Mourinho never took to the Frenchman but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did and trusted him as the main man up front in the 2019-2020 season.
He repaid Solskjaer’s trust by netting 17 Premier League goals but, since then, things have not worked out for the 28-year-old. A failed loan move to Sevilla in 2022 was followed by a brief renaissance under Erik ten Hag but his injuries have scuppered any chance of him succeeding under the Dutchman.
It’s a sad way for Martial to end his nine-year stay at Old Trafford.
