Amad Diallo had a star turn for the under-23 side at the weekend as he helped United’s youngsters to a 6-3 win over Liverpool.

The performance was an impressive debut made all the more notable because he had not trained with the under-23s, spending his initial two weeks with the first team.

Diallo was back with the first team on Monday as he was photographed training at Carrington as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put the team through their paces.

Diallo is a long shot to make the squad against Southampton for tonight’s game.

Solskjaer told the club website: “Amad has done well in training, he has good, close feet, he will open up defences. I don’t think it is going to be too long until he’s involved in a matchday squad.”

United’s players in good spirits

Despite winning just one of the last four Premier League games, United’s players appeared to be in a positive mood.

Marcus Rashford, Victor Lindelof and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were all pictured with smiles on their faces during the session.

The players also looked focused. Edinson Cavani in particular looked stony faced, still no doubt annoyed about his missed chances against Arsenal.

It is important United get back to winning ways against Southampton tonight. There is a good chance to do so, with the Saints hit with injuries, the Daily Echo report.

United face Everton at the weekend who are eight points behind us but have two games in hand. United need three points against the Saints to show the last two matches were just a minor blip.
