Alejandro Garnacho had to be reminded to celebrate after scoring in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.

Ruud van Nistelrooy ended his time as interim manager the same way he started – with a dominant victory over Leicester at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes was the star of the show on his 250th Manchester United appearance, scoring the opener before playing a big role in the second.

The headline from Van Nistelrooy’s team news was that Alejandro Garnacho was left out of the starting XI, but he came off the bench in the second half and extended United’s lead with a superb curling effort.

United picked up an important three points, putting them within four points of the top four in the Premier League table ahead of Ruben Amorim becoming head coach.

Alejandro Garnacho downbeat after fan criticism

Garnacho extended his lead as United’s top scorer this season with his curling effort against Leicester now his seventh of the campaign.

However, Fernandes had to remind Garnacho to celebrate, with the 20-year-old dropping his head after scoring.

United’s captain said: “Garnacho scored a banger but didn’t celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans.

“I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do.”

Garnacho’s form had dipped in recent games, but he has still been one of United’s better performers this season and deserves credit.

Alejandro Garnacho back smiling in social media post

United players crowded around Garnacho to offer him support after the full-time whistle – it was clear that he had been affected by the criticism.

But he was back smiling after the match after posting to Instagram after the full-time whistle.

Uncaptioned, Garnacho posted a picture of himself, Fernandes and Amad Diallo in United’s dressing room.

United teammates Kobbie Mainoo and Amad were quick to reply, while Fernandes also delivered a hilarious two-word comment.

Fernandes wrote “Mis hijos” which translates to “my children”.

Phil Jones defended Fernandes from criticism earlier this month and insisted he was a fantastic role model for the younger players – he proved it on Sunday.
