Ruben Amorim was all set to take charge as Manchester United’s new head coach on Monday morning.
Manchester United moved quickly to appoint Ruben Amorim as head coach less than a week after Erik ten Hag was sacked.
The 39-year-old Sporting Lisbon coach was the first-choice target for United’s leadership group, who triggered his £10m release clause to get a deal over the line.
Amorim was announced by United on Friday 1st November, but his official start date was noted as Monday the 11th.
Ruud van Nistelrooy finished his four-match stint as interim manager on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Leicester City. It now seems he may have to wait before handing over control.

Ruben Amorim is still waiting for work permit
Amorim was required to work his notice period before joining United, with his final game coming on Sunday evening as Sporting face Braga.
He was then set to fly to England to begin his job at Carrington, but reports suggest a work permit is now holding him back from getting started.
According to Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler, Amorim will not officially start at Manchester United tomorrow as he continues to wait for a work permit.
Amorim will likely explain more about the potential delay as he speaks to the press following his final match in charge of Sporting.
Ruben Amorim should still take charge during international break
One of Amorim’s first tasks at United is to hold crunch talks with Van Nistelrooy and decide whether the Dutchman will stay on his coaching staff or leave.
Those talks were expected to take place on Monday morning in what should have been Amorim’s first day as head coach.
Thankfully, the work permit delay shouldn’t have too much of an impact with club football being put on pause for the November internationals.

Amorim’s first match will be against Ipswich Town, and barring a catastrophic delay, he should be in the United dugout for that clash on November 24th.
