Manchester United go into the international break on a high after beating Leicester City 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was in charge of Manchester United for the final time as Leicester City made the trip to Old Trafford.

Van Nistelrooy was placed in charge after United decided to sack Erik ten Hag and his first game was an EFL Cup win over Leicester City.

The Dutchman’s reign started with a win over the Foxes and has ended in the same way, beating Leicester 3-0 in the Premier League this time.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring before a Victor Kristiansen own goal made it 2-0 before the break.

Alejandro Garnacho came off the bench to add number three as Van Nistelrooy’s time as interim boss comes to an end.

Bruno Fernandes sends Alejandro Garnacho reminder

United have already appointed Ruben Amorim as the new head coach and will welcome him to Old Trafford after Sporting’s clash with Braga on Sunday evening.

Van Nistelrooy’s future at United has not yet been decided with Amorim weighing up whether or not to keep him.

Amorim will at least inherit at United squad on a high after three wins in four under Van Nistelrooy.

Winger Garnacho should be delighted with his goal but he actually seemed rather understated after finding the net with a stunning curling strike.

The Argentinian has been heavily criticised in recent days having produced a wasteful performance against Chelsea last weekend.

Captain Fernandes has now stepped up with a message to United supporters, telling the fanbase to remember that even a ‘special’ player like Garnacho can’t score in every game.

Fernandes stated that Garnacho feels he has ‘lost faith’ from some supporters, leaving the United skipper to urge him not to focus on the criticism.

“Garnacho scored a banger but didn’t celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans. I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do,” said Fernandes.

“I told him to celebrate, it was something special. He is a special player, we have difference makers. They are the ones who win us games. We want them to score every game but that isn’t going to happen,” he added.

Garnacho position under Ruben Amorim unclear

Amorim will be in charge by the time United return to the pitch and it’s unclear just how he will approach the job tactically.

Amorim has almost entirely played a 3-4-3 system at Sporting and may well bring that approach to United.

The wing backs are very attack minded and the wingers operate in from the flanks, playing fairly narrow.

Garnacho doesn’t really suit either role at first glance, though the latter seems more suited to him than the former.

Amorim will have to work out whether to play Garnacho and get the best out of him, with the youngster clearly needing something of a pick-me-up right now.
