An important change former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson brought to Old Trafford is now being replicated at a rival Premier League club.

Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford after he led Manchester United to their last Premier League title, with the Scotsman retiring after 26 years in charge.

The legendary former United boss enjoyed incredible success at the Red Devils, lifting 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues and five FA Cups.

However, Ferguson’s success at Old Trafford was not immediate after he left Scottish side Aberdeen and replaced Ron Atkinson as United manager in 1986.

The iconic 82-year-old Scotsman was forced to usher in change behind the scenes at United, including stamping out the drinking culture at Old Trafford in the 1980s.

Ferguson was widely admired for stamping his authority at the Premier League club and the ex-Aberdeen and United boss could be ruthless in his approach with players.

The United legend was not afraid of axing players from Old Trafford and Ferguson took to task footballers who played badly with his infamous ‘hairdryer treatment.’

Sir Alex Ferguson’s Man Utd change

Tottenham academy director Simon Davies believes that one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s changes at Manchester United is now being implemented at Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou arrived at the London club last summer after he left Celtic and succeeded Antonio Conte as head coach at Tottenham.

The Spurs boss has been praised for his work at Tottenham this season, with the 58-year-old even tipped as a future manager at United.

Simon Davies has now suggested that former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is changing the culture at Spurs in the same way as Ferguson did at United.

Speaking to Tottenham’s Off The Shelf podcast, he said: “I think it’s probably even underestimated what he’s done.

“I see day-to-day in terms of… firstly, is he a top coach and a top manager? Yes.

“But more importantly, I kind of see, and you’ve asked me questions about Ferguson back in the day.

“Ferguson changed the culture and I do believe that Ange is doing exactly that.”

Ten Hag needs to adopt Ferguson approach

Erik ten Hag has faced his own difficulties at United this season and the Dutchman could take a page out of Ferguson’s playbook for the culture he needs to set.

The former Ajax boss had to deal with his fractured relationship with Jadon Sancho and the United winger was later shipped out on loan to Borussia Dortmund.

Ten Hag has also been placed under the spotlight over his handling of other players’ behaviour off the pitch, including Marcus Rashford’s visits to nightclubs last month.

The 54-year-old United boss enjoyed success in his debut season at Old Trafford after he arrived in 2022, but the current campaign has left much to be desired.

United’s current season could still take an ugly turn for the worse and Ten Hag will face mounting pressure if the Premier League club fail to make the top four.
