Manchester United considered bringing in a new forward over the January transfer window.
Ruben Amorim has been left worryingly short of options up front for the remainder of the season after an exit-heavy winter window.
Marcus Rashford left to join Aston Villa on loan, while Antony joined Real Betis and has made a brilliant start to his loan spell in Spain.
Manchester United allowed both players to leave despite Amorim’s side struggling for goals. Unsurprisingly, Amorim wanted to sign a striker on deadline day, but his wish was denied.
To make matters worse, Amad Diallo’s season is over following an ankle injury, so Amorim’s attacking options have shrunk again.
United were linked with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as a potential Rashford replacement, but the Red Devils missed out on a deal.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia stars in flawless Champions League display
United explored the idea of swapping Rashford for Kvaratskhelia in January but the Georgian star ended up making a move to PSG for a £59m fee.
The 24-year-old has made a bright start in France, and he showed United exactly what they missed out on during Wednesday’s Champions League clashes.
PSG beat Brest 7-0 at the Parc des Princes to secure a 10-0 aggregate win and reach the round of 16 in the Champions League.
Kvaratskhelia started on the right and picked up one goal and one assist. He featured in WhoScored’s Champions League Team of the Week with a perfect 10/10 rating.
His creativity was off the charts with three key passes completed, six completed dribbles and one big chance created. He also won an impressive 10 duels.
Man United have missed out on a gem
United chose to stay patient over the winter rather than splash the cash. The Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules were a big reason for that.
However, United had already made a terrible start to the season and then chose to weaken Amorim’s squad further with only Patrick Dorgu arriving as the only senior signing.
United will look to spend in the summer – ultimately, they have to. The current squad is crying out for new signings, but Kvaratskhelia is no longer on the market, and club chiefs may regret not snapping him up when they had the chance.

Kvaratskhelia has been labelled the Georgian George Best and he is showing at PSG why he is rated so highly around Europe.
Amorim’s system relies on two No.10s playing behind a central striker, but that is emerging as a problem position at United, especially after Amad’s injury. United have also been linked to Matheus Cunha, but the Red Devils will not be the only interested party come the summer.
