What Ruben Amorim has told Jason Wilcox to do on transfer deadline day, it’s what Man Utd need

Manchester United’s January transfer window has seen some encouraging additions, but there are still gaping holes yet to be filled.

Heading into the January transfer window, it was evident that Manchester United would struggle to spend freely.

Ruben Amorim was very upfront about this, explaining that money at United was very tight this month.

With limited funds, Ineos have had to be very smart and managed to sign two exciting defensive talents. Ayden Heaven arrived from Arsenal, while Patrick Dorgu has joined the club from Lecce.

Now, on deadline day it is the other end of the pitch that United need to strengthen – with just four senior attackers in the squad.

Ruben Amorim makes the need for a forward clear to Jason Wilcox

Heading into transfer deadline day, United’s need for a new forward was elevated with Marcus Rashford joining Aston Villa on loan.

Now, United in Focus understands via Graeme Bailey, that Amorim has made this clear to Jason Wilcox.

“Amorim has made it clear to Wilcox he wants a striker”, the transfer expert told United in Focus.

“United are working hard to find an option – they are looking for a loan, but a certain quality – they don’t really want another stop-gap option.

“[Mathys] Tel is obviously off the menu as it stands… [Christopher] Nkunku, [Leon] Bailey, [Joao] Felix, [Noah] Okafor and [Dusan] Vlahovic amongst more than a dozen names that have been looked at – United’s footballing department would rather wait until the summer.”

These options are not exactly names that will have United fans excited – but there is a desperation and the feeling is any addition will be welcome.

Manchester United cannot leave Amorim short

Amorim’s attacking options are incredibly slim right now, with the club loaning out Rashford and also Antony to Real Betis.

With just four out-and-out forwards, United’s decision-makers would be setting Amorim up to fail until the summer without a credible addition to bring goals to the team.

Amorim therefore must be backed by Ineos on deadline day even if it is just a stop-gap loan to see United through until the summer.

With 12 hours remaining, the clock is ticking for Wilcox and if we had to predict a deal, we think United will cave to Bayern’s demands and sign Tel. But we won’t have to wait long to find out.
