Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Manchester United rumours don’t quite add up as Ruben Amorim prepares to start work

Manchester United are awaiting Ruben Amorim’s arrival in England but many will already be thinking about potential signings under the new boss.

Erik ten Hag was sacked by Manchester United last week and Ineos were quick to pinpoint their top target.

Ruben Amorim has been appointed as United’s new head coach, signing a deal which could run until 2028.

Amorim will only arrive as United boss later in November though and will manage Sporting for two more games this week before heading to Manchester.

United fans are excited about Amorim’s arrival after two league titles with Sporting, making the 39-year-old one of the top young coaches in Europe.

Amorim does though need time to assess this United squad and figure out his plans for the future, which could start with a formation change.

Amorim has used a 3-4-3 system throughout his time with Sporting and may look to bring the same approach to United.

Manchester United linked with Serie A star

Amorim hasn’t even met the United squad yet, but transfer rumours around the new boss are already emerging.

Caught Offside now claim that Amorim is already interested in signing Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

It’s suggested that Amorim wants Kvaratskhelia whilst allowing fellow winger Antony to leave Old Trafford.

Napoli are understood to want around £90million for Kvaratskhelia, with talks over a new contract understood to be ‘at an impasse’.

United may well be interested in signing Kvaratskhelia and he has certainly proven his quality over in Italy.

The Georgian wide man has already bagged five goals and two assists in 11 Serie A games this season.

Kvaratskhelia is a quality player and seeing him between the lines in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system would be hugely exciting.

United already have enough players who want to play on the left flank though with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho preferring to play there.

Add in that Bruno Fernandes will be an option for that role in Amorim’s system and splashing big money on Kvaratskhelia would be a big surprise.

Gary Neville verdict on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

If United did make a move for Kvaratskhelia, one man who would surely be happy is Gary Neville.

The former United right back raved about Kvaratskhelia during Euro 2024, telling ITV Sport that he thinks the Napoli star is ‘devastating’ coming in off the flank.

Neville was blown away by a ‘brilliant’ finish as Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring against Portugal – a game Amorim would have surely watched.

“This boy was always going to be a threat in that left channel,” said Neville. “He’s devastating in there. Once he gets in there, you really fancy him.

“But it’s a brilliant finish. Emphatic, the way he drives it across the goalkeeper and then, from that moment, it gave Georgia a real chance because they were defensively really strong,” he added.

£90million on Kvaratskhelia just doesn’t add up for United right now but if his contract talks with Napoli continue to stall, he may be a name to keep an eye on in the future.
