Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation was resolved on Saturday when Senne Lammens made his long-awaited debut.

It was do or die for Ruben Amorim against Sunderland, and with this situation in mind, he finally made the popular decision to drop Altay Bayindir.

The Turkish international had left fans fuming over the past two months with his performances costing Manchester United points.

However, against Sunderland, Senne Lammens solved United’s goalkeeper problems as he made his debut, keeping a clean sheet in the process.

Lammens was voted United’s man of the match by fans for his transformational impact on the team, inspiring confidence throughout the backline.

Lammens also won over the Old Trafford fans immediately.

Stretford End was making a Peter Schmeichel comparison during Manchester United vs Sunderland

After watching the Belgian make his debut, Amorim picked out Lammens for praise after a strong and assured outing in goal, which is a massive upgrade on Bayindir and his appalling performances this season.

Lammens was claiming crosses, made some pivotal saves, and his distribution was also top-tier. In terms of goalkeeping quality, Lammens has it all.

The Stretford End agreed, with renditions of a chant toward Lammens breaking out.

“Are you Schmeichel in disguise?” the supporters chanted after Lammens caught one cross and made a save.

This, of course, is the highest of praise from United supporters, with Peter Schmeichel held in extremely high regard alongside David de Gea as two of the best in club history.

Old Trafford being firmly behind Lammens is the perfect start for him, and the debut should have him very well positioned for success in the future.

Lammens has benefit that Andre Onana never did at Manchester United

Lammens has made himself an instant hero for United, providing a first clean sheet of the season and making the 2-0 win easy for Amorim.

Winning over the Stretford End can often be the making of a player at United, which is something Andre Onana never managed.

Before a Premier League ball had even been kicked with Onana at United, he had major question marks around him due to conceding from the halfway line against Lens in pre-season at Old Trafford.

Onana then never really recovered, having some atrocious moments in his first season, which is a slippery slope.
