Heading into Manchester United’s Premier League outing against Sunderland, Ruben Amorim simply had to make one team selection decision, and he did.
Manchester United have re-entered the win column this weekend, beating Sunderland 2-0 at Old Trafford, in what was a must-win outing.
With the pressure well and truly on, Ruben Amorim was not let down by his players. The perfect start happened when Mason Mount opened the scoring after eight minutes to swing the momentum United’s way.
Benjamin Sesko then doubled the advantage and his tally for the season with a proper striker’s goal as he converted a long throw.
However, as good as the attacking side was, the other end of the pitch is where United fans will be delighted by the improvements from last week against Brentford.

Senne Lammens has already solidified himself as Manchester United’s number one
For the first time this season in the Premier League, United’s 2-0 win against Sunderland saw a clean sheet, which is absolutely huge in the battle for who starts in goal.
Amorim finally gave Senne Lammens his debut this weekend, after watching Altay Bayindir continually let him down over the past month.
If it were a test over Lammens’ readiness to be a starter, the Belgian certainly passed with flying colours, showing the impressive goalkeeping which earned him plaudits in Belgium.
Lammens was arguably the best player on the pitch as he scored a 7.8 match rating on SofaScore.
- 90 minutes
- 3 saves
- 0.94 goals prevented
- 1/1 runs out
- 2 high claims
- 52 touches
- 18/44 passes accurately
- 1/1 aerial duels won
Lammens’ performance blows Bayindir out of the water and raises the question of why he wasn’t playing sooner.
Lammens should be the first name on the teamsheet against Liverpool
Lammens put in the best goalkeeping display United fans will have watched for years, barely putting a foot wrong and looking light-years ahead of his competition.
Lammens was among United’s star players, and as a result, Amorim should already have his name written on the team sheet to face Liverpool in two weeks.
The deciding moment was in the 87th minute when Sunderland had a one-on-one chance, and Lammens made himself big before saving with his feet.
Goalkeeping problem has now been solved for United, and hopefully, it is a deciding factor in United getting more points going forward.
