Ruben Amorim and Mason Mount were both on the same wavelength over one key detail that was visible from Senne Lammens’ superb Manchester United showing against Sunderland.
Senne Lammens made his first start on his Manchester United debut after Ruben Amorim made the call to drop the error-prone Altay Bayindir to the bench.
The 23-year-old Belgian shot-stopper was tested at times in front of the United fans at Old Trafford in the 2-0 Premier League win over Sunderland on Saturday.
However, Lammens showed much-needed confidence between the sticks for United and the summer signing was in full command of his box and the Red Devils backline.
The former Royal Antwerp star could be seen barking orders at the United defence and confidently came out of his net to claim the ball when it was needed.

Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim explains an all-important point from Senne Lammens’ Premier League debut vs Sunderland
Senne Lammens was able to sign off his debut on a high note with a clean sheet, with Manchester United beating Sunderland and not conceding at Old Trafford.
Speaking after United’s 2-0 Premier League win over Sunderland, Amorim said that the ex-Royal Antwerp ace stepped up and “did really well” in his first appearance.
“That is the kind of game where when we’re not playing well, we’re defending well,” he told BBC Sport.
“We had our moments; we were focused and competitive. Not the perfect performance. Senne [Lammens] did really well.
“We were a competitive and adult team today. We need to win these games with a clean sheet. Good for us.”
United manager Amorim added that Lammens, who arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day, needed the support from his United teammates on his debut.
“We need to understand that we need everyone to be ready to play,” he continued.
“It’s a long season, we have a lot of problems, anything can happen.
“The important thing is that the teammates helped Lammens a lot to have a very good performance.”
Mason Mount echoes Ruben Amorim’s sentiments with his instant verdict on Man Utd summer signing Senne Lammens
Lammens was United’s fifth – and final – summer signing of the 2025 window and the former Club Brugge player had been waiting to make his debut for the club.
Amorim had stuck with Altay Bayindir after Lammens had arrived at Old Trafford before the Belgian shot-stopper finally received his chance against Sunderland.
Speaking about Lammens, Mason Mount told BBC Sport: “It’s important in the Premier League [to keep] clean sheets, you have chances to score and then to keep the clean sheet in the second half was so important.
“He was solid; when we were under pressure, the option was Ben [Sesko] and we worked off that.”
Mount, who opened the scoring at Old Trafford inside the first 10 minutes, was in full agreement with Amorim about what United players showed to Lammens.
“Buzzing for him, everyone was around him today, it can be tough making your first start we want to be together and I felt that today, so we keep moving forward,” he added.
United have climbed to ninth place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils picked up their third league win from seven league matches in the 2025-26 season.
