Senne Lammens on the key message from Michael Carrick to Man Utd players for the 2025-26 season

Sunderland were more dominant against Manchester United and the Red Devils were able to avoid a defeat after a strong showing from Senne Lammens on the day.

The Red Devils had already punched their ticket to the Champions League for next season after Man Utd’s 3-2 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford last weekend.

Despite United’s return to Europe for the 2026-27 campaign, Lammens insisted that interim boss Michael Carrick is not letting the players down tools this season.

“The manager has got the point across to us that this season is not finished,” he told Premier League Productions, as per BBC Sport.

“We have got Champions League, but we also want to finish third. We don’t want to finish below third; we want to keep those other teams away from us.

“I hope – and I think – our team thinks the same way as me.”

Man Utd star Senne Lammens on the importance of the Red Devils’ final two Premier League matches

Following the draw against Sunderland, United need only three Premier League points from their remaining two matches to ensure they finish third this season.

Lammens has said that it is important for the Red Devils players to pay back the support they received from United fans by finishing third in the Premier League.

“We can’t stop here,” he explained.

“I know the Champions League was our main goal, but we want to finish with as many points as possible.

“We want to finish with a good feeling to build on for next season, so we know how important these final games are for that.

“It’s important to show up and deliver in every game. We are going to try to win every game possible. We want to give back to our fans, who have been very supportive this season.”

Man Utd will face Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on 17th May before travelling to the Amex for their Premier League encounter with Brighton on 24th May.
