Manchester United’s Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen came courtesy of Ruben Amorim’s brilliant in-game management and substitutions.
It looked like another winless outing for Manchester United away from home in Europe – a run which stretched all the way back to March 2023.
Ruben Amorim was also headed for a third successive defeat for the first time in his career, but it was his in-game decision-making which flipped the game on its head.
Rasmus Hojlund was the star of the show, scoring twice and breaking a record set by Wayne Rooney in doing so, continuing his impressive form under Amorim.
Amorim should take a lot of praise from the game, with his substitutions changing the game for United.

Ruben Amorim praises Manchester United trio
In the aftermath of the game, Amorim highlighted that the substitutes were the reason behind the comeback, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

While by Antony’s standards, it was a very promising performance – creating two chances. Meanwhile, Hojlund’s two-goal impact does not need to be explained.
Amorim praising the trio including two unsung heroes is a sign of his excellent man management.

Antony was left out of the squad last weekend against Nottingham Forest, which meant he had to take his chance, and considering Amorim’s praise he certainly did.
Meanwhile, for Mount, a positive cameo will do wonders for his season under Amorim considering he has failed to impress under the Portuguese head coach thus far.
Mount was tipped to shine under Amorim, and he will hope this is the start of him finally laying down roots at the club.
