Manchester United fans instantly reacted to what they saw from Diego Leon after Ruben Amorim handed the wonderkid his debut against Leeds United on Saturday.

The Red Devils kicked off their pre-season tour in Europe and Manchester United crossed paths with rivals Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena in Sweden.

Ruben Amorim’s men had their chances to break the deadlock in the first half of the friendly match in Solna against the newly promoted Premier League side.

Both the Red Devils and Leeds went into the break with a 0-0 scoreline on the board and United manager Amorim made sweeping changes ahead of the second half.

However, Amorim’s men and Daniel Farke’s side played out a repeat of the first-half scoreline in the second half at the Strawberry Arena on Saturday afternoon.

United fans were able to witness their first opportunity of Diego Leon in action after Amorim rolled the dice with Red Devils talent from the outset against Leeds.

What Man Utd fans were saying about Diego Leon’s debut display under Ruben Amorim vs Leeds United

Manchester United agreed to sign Diego Leon back in January from Cerro Porteno and Paraguayan talent finally arrived at Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

Leon linked up with his United teammates at the Carrington training complex last week for their first pre-season training under Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.

United announced their acquisition of Leon earlier this month and the 18-year-old wonderkid has already secured important first-team minutes under his belt.

Leon started as the left wing-back in Amorim’s tactical system for United and the ex-Cerro Porteno defender saw out the opening 45 minutes against Leeds United.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, had their early say on what they saw from the left wing-back at the Strawberry Arena.

One Red Devils supporter suggested: “Diego Leon! There’s a player there. He still needs to improve his back-post defending by looking over his shoulder more and build[ing] a better relationship with the LCB.”

Somebody else wrote: “Really impressed by Diego Leon. His movements look great going forward. Physically, [he is] very strong. But his stamina is quite low, he is getting tired. Hopefully, he is learning European football.”

“Diego Leon will ball, he needs time,” a third United fan said.

While a fourth X user added: “After a shaky first [five] minutes where he [was] caught out of position and in possession, Diego Leon really grew into the game. His first 45 minutes in the shirt at 18 [years] old. Imagine that feeling?”

A fifth tweeted: “Diego Leon has prospects. Game time will improve him.”

Someone else claimed: “That Diego Leon, [Manchester United’s] new signing. That kid is gonna surprise a lot of people. He’s a talent.”

And a seventh posted: “Diego Leon, looks like we have a potential starter – he can thrive in the [Premier League]. He has the physical [ability], need to see more of his crossing [and] edge-of-the-box runs.”

“Diego Leon, I like the energy,” another simply said.

What is next for Man Utd in the pre-season tour after the encounter against Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena?

Leon was hooked off ahead of the second half in Solna and Amorim brought on Red Devils defender Patrick Dorgu during United’s uneventful 0-0 draw against Leeds.

The Paraguayan full-back, who can play as both a left-back and as a left wing-back, is still ‘raw’ and there is plenty of time ahead of Leon to develop under Amorim.

Leon could still secure more United first-team experience this summer during the pre-season campaign, with Amorim rotating his options ahead of the new season.

Following United’s encounter with Leeds, the Red Devils will resume their pre-season training ahead of travelling to the United States for the next part of their tour.

Amorim’s men will face Premier League side West Ham on 27th July at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey before playing Bournemouth and Everton in the States.
