Man Utd ratings vs Leeds, Matheus Cunha debut verdict as 9/10 youngster showed world-class potential

Manchester United kicked off their 2025/26 pre-season with a goalless draw against Leeds United in Sweden.

The game summed up the fact that both these sides were clearly lacking in match sharpness, as moments of inspiration were muddled with careless mistakes.

Matheus Cunha was bright in his 45-minute cameo, and Ayden Heaven showed continued signs of stardom, but that was it.

Amorim will look at it as a good exercise before departing for the USA, where the real work should begin.

Manchester United player ratings vs Leeds

Altay Bayindir – 6

Not directly called upon to do any heroics, which is just as well since he hasn’t always convinced.

Noussair Mazraoui – 7

Handled Leeds’ threat expertly and constantly provided support to Amad as a wide centre-back.

Matthijs de Ligt – 5

Costly mistake from a nothing cross by Leeds which he somehow conspired to hit against his own body but there was nobody near him to make it count.

Luke Shaw – 6

Could have been more adventurous in his passing but fairly secure otherwise.

Amad – 7

Took up dangerous positions out wide and tried to get past his man but was clearly lacking in match sharpness that will come with time.

Diego Leon – 6.5

A bundle of energy in and out of possession. Leeds targeted him but he stood up to it and tried to make things happen offensively.

Casemiro – 5.5

A few brilliant moments sprinkled over a game where he was still catching up to the pace of it.

Toby Collyer – 6

Safe and secure in possession, energetic out of it. Will never make things happen but solid is the word for him.

Bruno Fernandes – 6

Took some time to get into the game before the subbing off came. Moments of promise but overall frustrating.

Matheus Cunha – 8

Gave a slumbering United much-needed thrust with his runs and flicks. Plenty to be hopeful about.

Chido Obi – 6.5

Was not always on the same wavelength as his teammates, but would still much rather have an overeager striker instead of an underconfident one.

Substitutes

Tom Heaton – 8

Fantastic saves that kept the game level, including one that was world-class.

Harry Maguire – 7

Calm and confident as usual in possession.

Ayden Heaven – 9

Brilliant against Leeds press, and physically dominant when they attacked. He’s setting new levels and proving he has world-class potential.

Leny Yoro – 7

Smart long passes and switches of play showed his ball-playing skills.

Patrick Dorgu – 7

Grew into the game late on as United threw numbers forward. Should have got a penalty late on.

Rasmus Hojlund – 5

Tried hard and looks fitter than last season but needs to find his groove soon.

Bendito Mantato – 6

Unassuming appearance for the youngsters who didn’t stand out in a good or bad way.

Mason Mount – 6.5

Showed his usual energy but looks a step below starting XI level, especially with Mbeumo arriving.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6

Kept things ticking in the middle of the park but looked hurried at times by Leeds’ pressing. Should have won it late on with a header.

Diogo Dalot – 5

Willing option on overlaps but rarely got his crossing right. Caught Hojlund’s ire.

Manuel Ugarte – 6.5

Wasn’t influential in possession. Solid in defence.

Tyler Fredricson – 6

Came on for just under 30 minutes and did his job well.

Jack Fletcher – 6

Came on even later than Fredricson, in place of Mantato.
