Manchester United have spoken with Rudi Garcia about the interim manager role, reports The National.
Garcia has previous experience in charge of Lille, Marseille and Roma, and his most recent job was a role at Lyon.
After departing Lyon amid a clash with sporting director Juninho, Garcia was unsure what his next move may hold.
He told GFFN: “There aren’t many clubs that interest me. It will be a club in Champions’ League or one that is aiming for it. I’m pretty picky on the project.”
United seemingly have his attention. The chance to manage a team with Cristiano Ronaldo is likely very tempting.
Garcia has lauded Ronaldo
Lyon managed to shock Juventus in 2019 and knock them out of the Champions League last 16. Only after they survived a brace scored by Ronaldo.
Garcia told BBC Sport: “We came up against an opponent who has an extraterrestrial in its squad.”
He went on to describe one of Ronaldo’s goals as ‘magnificent’, and last year told Sky Sports: “He is obviously one of the best players in the world.”
The chance to manage Ronaldo does not come along too often. It’s understandable Garcia would be keen.
With six goals in five Champions League goals, Ronaldo has shown he is still a difference maker of the highest calibre.
Garcia’s biggest success
Garcia made his name at Lille as he led an unfancied side to win the 2010/11 title.
Moussa Sow was the team’s top scorer with 25 goals, with Gervinho also playing a key role, along with a blossoming Eden Hazard, each providing nine assists.
He achieved a league and cup double that season too, with a 1-0 win over PSG in the final.
The closest he came to a trophy since was leading Marseille to the 2017/18 final, before they were beaten by Atletico Madird.
