Cristiano Ronaldo wins his first award since Manchester United return

Cristiano Ronaldo has won his first award since returning to Manchester United.

Ronaldo has been voted the club’s player of the month for September, United announced.

It’s not too surprising. Ronaldo scored five goals in his first five games since his return.

These included three Premier League goals and two in the Champions League. The last was a memorable 95th minute winner over Villarreal.

Still got it

Ronaldo has also been nominated for the Premier League’s player of the month award, Sky Sports report.

Also in contention are Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin, and Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo.

It is unlikely this will be the only time Ronaldo is nominated for the league or club award.

Even at the age of 36, Ronaldo is still one of the league’s most lethal players.

United’s issue has been providing the right service for him. In the last couple of league games United have not been able to carve out quality goalscoring chances.

Ronaldo is used to winning individual awards, having won the Ballon d’Or five times.

He has won the Premier League player of the season award twice, a double for both the writers award and the PFA award voted by his fellow players.

Doing it again this season is not beyond his reach, although there is still a long way to go. United will have to play better as team than the side have done in the last couple of league games, for Ronaldo to stand a chance.
