Cristiano Ronaldo international break was not what he had hoped for.
Ronaldo has not won any of his last four matches for club and country, and has failed to score in his last three.
This weekend Ronaldo will be looking to put that right by getting back on the scoresheet, and he will see a familiar face.
Former United teammate Ben Foster will be in goal for Watford, as he builds on making his 500th career appearance last month.
Foster played for United between 2005 and 2009 and was in goal when United won the League Cup in Ronaldo’s final season of his first spell at Old Trafford.
Foster has spoken highly of Ronaldo
Foster spoke about Ronaldo earlier this year when the forward was still at Juventus.
In quotes made to the Jaacks Happy Hour Podcast reported by the club website, Foster raved: “He was so hard working, it was phenomenal to see.
“That is why, with the question between [Lionel] Messi and Ronaldo, I will always say Ronaldo because I saw what he did for it and how hard he had to work to get to that level. He is still doing it now.
“You see some of the stuff he does on the internet. He is a machine. An absolute machine!”
Foster probably thought his time sharing a pitch with Ronaldo was over, until he re-signed for United at the end of August.
Quoted by The Mirror at the time, Foster praised the move, commenting: “They’re (United) going to get two years of him scoring 30/35 goals in the Premier League this season, honestly the guy is a joke.”
Reunited on opposing teams
Ronaldo will want to take his international frustration out on Watford this coming weekend.
He is currently on 798 goals for club and country and he will want to reach the landmark figure of 800 as quickly as possible.
Most of all, Ronaldo will just want to win, no matter who is in his path.
Watford are in 17th place in the table, although are just seven points behind United.
Foster is yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League this season, and this is a duel Ronaldo will fancy his chances of coming out on top in.
