Manchester United wonderkid Chido Obi is making great strides for the club since his big move.

While Manchester United’s summer spending is still subject to scrutiny, the club’s recruitment at youth level may have landed a gem.

United secured a major coup with the acquisition of Denmark wonderkid Chido Obi, who quit Arsenal to join the Red Devils.

Chido Obi’s move was subject to paperwork which mean he did not get around to making his debut at academy level until October, before grabbing a hat-trick on his first start.

Chido Obi impresses for under-18s

Chido Obi started up front for Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup on December 18, leading the line against Coventry.

Obi helped United to an easy victory, lethal in attack along with fellow freescoring striker Gabriele Biancheri.

The pair put United 3-0 up inside the opening 14 minutes, with Obi scoring the third goal, finishing a one v one opportunity.

Obi added his second of the game with a free-kick in the second half, the first he has scored for United’s academy.

He pushed for his hat-trick but was substituted on 71 minutes, saved for another day. Biancheri went on to complete his own treble, making it 5-0.

The 17-year-old striker’s performance left fans even more excited about his potential.

One fan wrote on X: “Chido Obi Martin is going to be this clubs striker for years to come! Leaving Arsenal for United shows high ambition from the kid.”

“Chido Obi is just different”, added another, with a third agreeing, “Chido Obi Martin will be a star one day.”

One fan confidently wrote: “Chido Obi is our own Haaland.”

“Wow that’s cheeky from Chido Obi to make it 4-0,” added another impressed spectator.

And a sixth added: “Arsenal will never forgive us for taking their best ever upcoming striker from their academy.”

Another wrote: “Debut this season at some point,” and a further response read: “He’s too good for under 18s.”

Chido Obi record for United

Since making his debut for Manchester United’s under-18s in October, Chido Obi is now up to eight goals for the season.

Obi also has one assist, and another assist at under-21 level for the club.

He recently became the record ever goalscorer at under-18s level – but has to do some catching up this season, with teammate Biancheri now up to 20 goals for the 18s and 21s combined this season.
