Manchester United’s lack of goals this season in the first team has been a problem. That’s not been the case in the academy.
One of the most exciting deals Manchester United did in the summer was to sign Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi.
The forward recently celebrated United’s FA Cup win over the Gunners, showing exactly where his loyalties lie, with Arsenal fans fuming at his departure.
Chido Obi has recently signed a professional deal with United after turning 17, and could be in line for a big 2025.

Chido Obi season so far
Premier League red tape delayed Chido Obi’s arrival at the club, meaning he did not make his debut until October.
Chido Obi made his debut as a substitute, before a spectacular first start, in which he netted a hat-trick after just 14 minutes.
He has continued to score goals, netting eight in total for the under-18s, including two in the FA Youth Cup third round.
It has been a fast start for a player who was unable to play a competitive club game for four months, missing pre-season.
There has been speculation United could offer him a first team call before the end of the season, and a chance to really prove himself is heading his way.
Chido Obi new opportunity
Chido Obi has had to play second fiddle to another young striker since his arrival, with Gabriele Biancheri scoring for fun.
Biancheri has netted 20 goals this season in total, grabbing a hat-trick in the FA Youth Cup, outshining Chido Obi.
But now, Biancheri is out of action, having to undergo surgery on what appears to be an arm injury.
A blow for him is an opportunity for Chido Obi to step up as the lead striker at under-18s level, and potentially for the under-21s, with Ethan Wheatley possibly in line to go out on loan.
Chido Obi should start for the under-18s in the FA Youth Cup fourth round against Preston on Friday night.
While he started alongside Biancheri last time, it could be the case that Chido Obi leads the line alone as a main forward; and if he does have a partner, he will be expected to take centre stage.
It’s a real chance for him to shine in the second half of the season, and progress his claims for further minutes. Biancheri should be back before the end of the campaign – but the young Dane could be the main man by time he returns.
